Hive Gallery – Road to Comicon RECAP
HIVE Gallery is making a name for itself in Downtown Los Angeles as a hot spot for showcasing a diverse range of up and coming talent. Road to Comicon was the latest in HIVE’s ongoing series of openings which we attended this past Saturday. Fresh on the scene from Marka27 down at Crewest, we dived into our second gallery event of the night…
Show curator Trek Lewis had done his homework…the walls were on fire with comic and pop-themed artwork courtesy of DYCPHER and DYTCH66 of CBS, TEWSR, MIMI YOON, CIG NEUTRON, YUKIE MIYAZAKI, CZER, SIMON ESTRADA along with other artists

Featured artist Alex Schaefer unveiled a new series of canvases depicting burning bank buildings and America’s vulgar economic excess. Alex is the guy to watch as his raw painting style and activist-charged content is attracting the attention of art fans, collectors and even the LAPD/FBI. Now, if we could just get Alex to paint the DMV going up in smoke…
HIVE definitely lives up to it’s name as we explored massive gallery area up front and a lengthy avenue of artist spaces and display areas stretching all the way to the back of the building. Twisted pop art, surreal photography, steampunk-ish sculptures and even an installation of AK47s rendered in concrete. There’s something for everyone. Feet tapped to indie band WE ARE SHE IS, DJs pushed some smooth house beats and a lone bartender bravely served drinks to a demanding crowd.
When we couldn’t take the increasing heat from hundreds of art fans crowded into the building, it was time to call it a night. HIVE has a lot going for it and we’ve definitely got this Spring street gallery on the radar for future shows in the coming months. Thanks to Nathan and the crew for a great night!
